The Robocup selects Gostai’s partner “Nao” robot to replace the Aibo
Paris – France - August 2007. The French start-up Gostai announces that the “Nao” robot, developed by its partner Aldebaran Robotics, has been selected to officially replace Sony Aibo in the international Robocup Standard Platform League event. This event is the most important robotic event in the world today. The Nao humanoid robot, like now 10 other robots in the world, is equipped with URBI, the Universal Software Platform for robotics developed by Gostai and already popular in the Aibo community. URBI is the “brain” of robot, the central system, a bit like Windows or Linux in today’s computers.
The annual RoboCup competition is the most important robotic event in the world today. In 2007, 321 teams from 39 countries/regions, representing a total of 1700 participants reflecting the best researchers and technologies, have competed in different leagues. These competitions define the references of robotics.
To go further in supporting the research community in general, and Robocup teams in particular, Gostai has opened a free support program for academics and robotics club, available from its web page.
Jean-Christophe Baillie, Gostai’s CEO, says: “The Standard Platform League is the only Robocup competition requiring to use identical robots. This league thus focuses exclusively on software development. This is the perfect opportunity for all participants to discover our software platform. Team members taking part in Robocup are really advanced users, and we are excited by this great challenge: bring them the most powerful solution available today for robotics software development. We have a long experience of working with researchers and we really expect useful collaborations to emerge from this event.
Gostai has been working with Aldebaran Robotics for a long time. We are delighted to see this extraordinary advanced robot make a step forward and take the limelight in the most famous event for robots enthusiasts, following the footsteps of Aibo, which was our first target platform for URBI.”
